Forestry Faculty

 

Forestry is broadly defined as the science and practice of developing, managing or cultivating trees and forests for human benefit. Forest sector is a boosting industry of the Belarusian economy. For this reason, forestry graduates are always in high demand in the labour market.

The professional training covers many forestry-related areas including forest formation and growing, environmental protection and forest ecosystem monitoring (control), forest certification, hunting grounds activities, management of forest resources, forest inventory, GIS technologies, etc.

Landscape architecture deals with the design of all outdoor spaces, connecting people with natural systems, and making the urban and rural environment more human and liveable.

The teaching process is innovative and dynamic, with opportunity for students to engage with research and practice as they progress their study. The professional training covers such areas as design of landscape architecture objects, landscape design and interior decoration, planting material arrangement and maintenance in landscape greenery environment, cultivation of ornamental plants.

The Tourism and Nature Management program prepares students for careers ranging from national park guides to recreation resource managers, nature-based tourism providers, and many more.

The professional training covers such areas as design and creation of ecological and hunting tourism agencies, tour guiding, travel agency international activities, organization of tourism and nature management services in travel agencies, protected areas (national parks, reserves), hunting farms, commercial and educational institutions.

Faculty of Forest Engineering, Materials Science and Design

 

Professional training is focused on the organization and management of production processes in timber industry based on multiple-function logging machines, special load-haul-dump equipment, production lines for primary wood processing, facilities for recycling wood waste, automated assortment systems, measurement and assessment, etc. 
Students receive profound training in research, design, construction and maintenance of forest transportation roads and railways.

Career: Engineer

Professional training includes organization and production management at timber enterprises, design of new types of logging machines and woodworking equipment; feasibility of engineering projects, prototype-making, experimental-industrial control and environmental assessment of logging equipment and its efficiency.        
Students are given a detailed description of hoisting and conveying equipment anddevelopment of the machinery in forest industry, design of manufacturing equipment, maintenance systems, construction of forest roads and their maintenance, CAD and CAM systems. Students are introduced to advanced developments in logging machinery and engineering and develop strong skills in industrial management.

Career: Mechanical Engineer          

The program embraces a broad range of issues related to mechatronic and robotic systems operation in woodworking, transportation, pulp-and-paper, timber, machine-building and other industries.  Students hone their skills in designing and making woodworking tools and equipment, CNC machines, microprocessor-based control systems of woodworking machines. The program is designed to make you an adaptable engineering professional ready to face up the future challenges of various industries.

Career: Mechatronics Engineer

The degree program is designed to provide students with an educational background that will prepare them for careers in woodworking industry, furniture design and manufacturing, sales and marketing of wood products, and others. Students obtain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the technical, environmental and financial aspects of woodworking and wood technology, wood conservation and decorative wood coatings.

The program allows students to choose from two concentrations, Woodworking or Furniture Design.

The degree program gives profound knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. The modules studied include both engineering basics, and more specific modules, e.g., renewable energy, heat transfer enhancement, industrial thermal operations, thermal energy systems, computational fluid dynamics, etc. The students also work with advanced aspects of energy system modelling, heat and mass transfer, control engineering and experimental work with focus on different components and energy system aspects. Career path includes a wide variety of options, as many industries require the knowledge of an energy engineer.

Chemical Technology and Engineering Faculty

 

The program introduces its students to the structure and characteristics of polymers, manufacturing methods, product design fundamentals, and modern processing methods for composites and polymeric materials. The curriculum prepares graduates who understand and apply established scientific and engineering knowledge to support engineering activities in manufacturing environments. Professional activities include development, design analysis, planning, supervision or construction of the methods and equipment for the production of industrial or consumer goods in the plastics or composites industry.

Career: Engineer

Students study theoretical principles and obtain practical skills for calculation, design and investigation of machines and apparatus, design of automated technological lines for enterprises of chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry, ceramics and glass production. Students master principles of their rational utilization, maintenance and repair servicing of modern machines and apparatus.

Graduates will find employment in the technical-operational, marketing and management positions in production facilities, as well as in the departments of preparation and organization of production, in the design and construction of technological equipment, in the design and construction of plant operations, etc.

Automation of technological processes is based on the principles of electrical engineering. The goal is to partially or totally control automated technical processes. The core topics studied by the students include modelling, analysis and simulation of technical processes, measurement and instrumentation, feedback control, programmable controls and microprocessors, industrial information technology, computing and data processing.

The graduates can find employment as engineers in technical operational, commercial and management positions.

The program emphasizes training and research along the following specializations which students can choose to focus on: technology of mineral fertilizers, salts and alkalies, technology of basic inorganic synthesis, technology of catalysts and adsorbents, technology of mineral resources dressing, technology of products of fine inorganic synthesis, pure substances and agents, technology of glass and glass ceramics, chemical technology of binders, technology of binder-based building materials, technology of inorganic polymer binding and composite materials, technology of fine functional and building ceramics, technology of enamels and protective coatings, chemical technology of refractory materials, chemical technology of materials and articles of vacuum electronics, chemical technology of quantum and solid-state electronics.

Professional training is focused on rational utilization of raw materials and fuel-energy resources, control and standardization of industrial enterprises and municipal waste impact on the environment. The degree program includes courses in public policy and sustainability. Lab work plays a major role, students do research and gain experience in environmental waste treatment, expertise of ecological and economic systems, environmental monitoring, control of gas-cleaning plants and sewage treatment, etc.

Career: Engineer. Ecologist

The program offers professional training in the following specializations which can be chosen by the students: functional electroplating, corrosion and protection of metals, electrochemical sewage treatment, technology of printed circuit boards and microcircuits. Students can also join the investigations in which the system's electrochemical properties themselves are of primary interest, for example, the design of new power generation systems (e.g., fuel cells and batteries) and synthesis of new materials such as metal alloys or oxide films.

The study program is focused on the education of engineers/chemical technologists in microelectronics with profound knowledge in chemistry of liquid crystals, quantum chemistry, vacuum technology, physical chemistry of micro- and nanosized systems, theory, design and technology of integrated circuits, electronic systems and devices for utilization in various fields of electronics.

Students participating in this program will have outstanding career opportunities with electronic equipment manufacturers, including those engaged in making and designing audio, video and computer equipment, as well as consumer goods and electronic supplies and equipment.

This program will give you in-depth knowledge and understanding of additive manufacturing technology, properties of materials, designs and performance characteristics of various products and structures. Students learn from experienced teachers with a range of expertise in such fields as 3D printing, prototyping, CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, materials science, programming, and technology innovation. The program also introduces you to the advanced additive manufacturing applications across multiple industry sectors.

In this program students learn about the techniques of waste water treatment and about types of sewer systems. They are provided with the theoretical backgrounds, conduct experiments and learn to design systems. Further subjects include water resources management, water supply and waste water disposal, water chemistry and water technology, membrane and electrochemical water techniques of water treatment, waste management, environmental hygiene, etc. There is an opportunity to benefit from practical experience provided by professional partners. The program produces process-literate and management-competent graduates equipped to work within the water sector.

The program has a strong focus on materials science and will equip students with up-to-date knowledge of cutting-edge technology and equipment used in glass and ceramics production. The students will get a comprehensive overview of the production of construction, medicinal and automobile glass, optic fibre, glassware, ceramic tiles, bricks, bioceramics, porcelain, cement, concrete, silicate blocks and many other materials used in modern construction industry.

Upon completion of the program, you can be employed as a research developer and production management engineer in the glass, ceramics, and binder industry or in research institutes and will be able to solve tasks related to material technology and material testing including production and processing.

The program in Industrial Design offers hands-on training to students with a passion for product design. You will be guided through every step of the design process: from creative concept, design and technical development to the presentation of a production-ready design. The program is packed with practical experience and involves experimenting with wood, ceramics, clay, gypsum, glass, and more. You will also het insight into mechanical design, smart products, advanced CAD/CAM/CAE, Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, advanced manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing and VR-Design assessments.

As an Industrial Design graduate, you can look forward to career opportunities in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, construction, architecture, furniture making, and many more.

Organic Substances Technology Faculty

 

Professional training is based on the study of technology of organic products such as plastics and rubber, paint-work materials, fibres, coatings and adhesives, source substances for large-tonnage polymers and surface-active materials. The program offers the opportunity to examine a broad range of polymers, their uses, and the processes for their extraction and development (including injection moulding, blow moulding, and extrusion as well as plastic part design). The educational content covers all of the main fields in polymer technology, structured in a way that gives you an opportunity to solve real-world tasks.

The program graduates well-rounded professionals demanded by many sectors of material development, plastics processing and product development.

The bachelor program has a modern and well-balanced curriculum designed to produce graduates who can satisfy the current needs of the petroleum industry. The program combines traditional chemical engineering topics with multidisciplinary design projects, specialist petrochemical modules.  Core courses include chemistry and technology of organic and petrochemical synthesis, chemistry and technology of oil and gas processing, modeling and optimization of chemical engineering processes, chemistry of fossil hydrocarbons, chemmotology and many more. Employment opportunities are widely available with oil refineries or oil and gas producers, industry support companies, research institutes, higher schools, etc.

The program applies advanced materials science and engineering to careers in fields like paper manufacture, wood-based boards manufacture, wood chemistry, hydrolysis and microbiological industries. Wood is one of the world's most important renewable resources. The program stresses conservation while teaching students to combine wood with polymers and plastics to make advanced engineered composites. The field is both an engineering and scientific discipline in which students take classes in chemistry, mathematics, physics, mechanics and chemical processes involved in the manufacture of pulp and paper, etc.

The students are offered the following options within the undergraduate program: technology of hydrolysis and microbiological production, technology of wallboards and plastics, technology of wood chemistry production, technology of pulp and paper production.

The graduate program provides its students with a strong multidisciplinary knowledge of biotechnology and engineering and the ability to apply this knowledge in a research and industry environment. At the core of the training are biotechnologically important organisms, vitamins, ferments, energy carriers, enzymes, ether oils, their properties and applications in products and processes. Students acquire practical skills and the ability to use key methods of biotechnology, including genetic engineering and synthetic biology, and learn to apply these tools to the development of biotechnological processes.

The undergraduate program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the pharmacy field. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The students will learn how to set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment, monitor experiments, analyze data, and record and interpret results. They are also trained to design fermentation vats and various bioreactors for microorganisms that will produce a given product, to plan equipment layout and workflow to maintain efficient use of plant facilities.

The study program introduces the students to physical, chemical and radiation methods and devices for quality assessment of industrial, food and pharmaceutical products, their identification, identification of falsified and adulterated products. The students acquire skills related to national standardization, measurement techniques, technological specifications, regulations and other reference documentation.

The students are offered the following options within the graduate program: industrial products certification, foodstuffs certification, pharmaceuticals certification.

Economic Engineering Faculty

 

The undergraduate program in economics and management provides a perfect starting point for those who wish to pursue a career in technology, management and economics. This program attracts students who are interested in engineering, and who want to study both economics and technology. Interdisciplinary teamwork is a major focus in this program, providing students with skills that are sought after in such sectors as chemical, printing, forest, building materials industries, and opening doors to many interesting jobs.

Throughout the study program, there is a strong emphasis on sustainability and emerging markets. Graduates of this specialty have all the necessary skills in the field of making managerial decisions and are able to solve problems of organization and planning, analysis and control of economic situations, personnel management, business plan development of innovative projects and new technologies.

You will have the opportunity to choose one of the following minors from your second year onwards: industrial management, international management, real estate management, small business management, entrepreneurial management.

The degree program is designed to give its students the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed as marketing professionals. Covering both theory and practice, the core courses emphasize the fundamentals of planning, research, and integration. Students develop an understanding and skills in the areas of distribution, marketing information management, market planning, pricing, product/service management, promotion, and selling as well as marketing functions applications and impact on business operations. Mathematics and social studies are reinforced.

Faculty of Print Technology and Media Communications

 

The study of print technology covers the whole area of applied communications engineering from text and image processing, print preparation (print copy/print form production – plate, screen, cylinder), the printing process and, finally, the finishing. In the more advanced semesters studies concentrate on process engineering. The undergraduate program focuses on reproduction and composition technology, the production of print forms, printing and finishing processes, the production and application of packaging materials of all kinds (paper, cardboard, film).

Modern printing production is an information-processing system based on the latest digital technologies and robotics. The students can enter careers in publishing and printing complex for servicing printing machines, they also have knowledge in the field of hardware and software for processing all types of digital and analog information.   They can perform a wide range of work in design and upgrading of printing equipment and electronic data processing systems.

Information Technology Faculty

 

Information systems and technology is the multidisciplinary study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and system networks. IT professionals accomplish a range of tasks, from developing and installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. Students graduate as IT professionals with knowledge of computer hardware and software, web- and electronic design, databases, telecommunications, wireless technology and the Internet. They also develop the skills of effective communication, teamwork and leadership.

Career: Programming Engineer

Students learn how to write computer programs using modern software languages such as С++, C#, PHP, Python and Ruby, database development and design, systems analysis and design, microcomputer techniques, and networking and communication concepts. This program will introduce the PHP and JavaScript scripting languages. The course will cover programming concepts, web programming and testing, client server architecture, database access and HTML, CSS, XML /Cascading style sheets. Students will learn how to write full scale web applications. The IT curriculum is constantly evolving to keep pace with the changing needs of industry. Students are provided with the skills they need to land one of the high-paying, high-tech jobs.
