Delegation of the Republic of Zimbabwe Visits BSTU

On May 14, 2023, the delegation of the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science and Technology Development head by the Minister Amon Murwira made a visit to Belarusian State Technological University.

During their visit to the BSTU museum of history and education and the exhibition hall or research developments the delegation was given a comprehensive overview of educational programs and research profile of the university. Minister Amon Murwira left a complimentary note in the Distinguished Visitors’ Book of our museum.

 

The parties signed three bilateral cooperation documents outlining prospects of new and existing academic partnership: Memorandum of Understanding between Midlands State University and Belarusian State Technological University, Roadmap of Cooperation between University of Zimbabwe and Belarusian State Technological University, Roadmap of Cooperation between Chinhoyi University of Technology and Belarusian State Technological University.    

Academic and student community of BSTU gave the delegation their warmest welcome in the assembly hall of the university where Prof. Dr. Murwira addressed the meeting attendees with a thoughtful speech about the prospects of Belarus-Zimbabwe cooperation in the field of education, innovation, science and technology. The event ended up with a ceremony of awarding Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science and Technology Development the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Belarusian State Technological University.

Ihar Voitau, BSTU Rector recapped on some of the highlights of the visit. ‘We have defined key areas of our further work – rational use of natural resources, chemical technology, inorganic substance technology and its agricultural uses. Currently, the Republic of Zimbabwe is faced with a task to enhance the fertility of agricultural soils, which can be done by various chemical organic and inorganic elements. We have already gained vast experience in this areas and are willing to share it with our Zimbabwean partners, in particular, through training of MSc and PhD students. We will team up with our industry (Belgorkhimprom concern) to deliver some projects in the field of fertilizers technology that can be successfully implemented for the benefits of Zimbabwean agriculture.’       

The parties also agreed to cooperate in areas such as forestry, woodworking, chemical processing of wood, hydrolysis, etc.
