On May 15, 2023, the University opened its doors to the delegates of II International Ecological Youth Forum. The event is co-organized by Belarusian State Technological University and Rossotrudnichestvo Office (Russian House in Minsk) supported by the Standing Committee of the Union State and CIS Executive Committee.
The Forum aims to foster and integrate cultural and educational cooperation of Belarusian and Russian universities, to raise environmental awareness of young people.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ihar Voitau, BSTU Rector; Yuriy Makushin, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Office in Minsk; Alexandr Kulik, Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus; Alexandr Korbut, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus; Sergey Pishchov, Head of Main Directorate of Professional Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus; Sergey Shparlo, Head of Department for Cooperation in the field of Emergency Response of the CIS Executive Committee; Timur Alibaev, Rector of Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev – KAI; Igor Marzalyuk, Chairman to the Permanent Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus.
‘Being a leading educational and research centre of the Republic of Belarus, the University is a most appropriate platform for the event. We have over 90-year history of forestry and ecological education and cooperation with the universities of the CIS member states is a top priority’, said Ihar Voitau, BSTU Rector.
Yuriy Makushin highlighted that youth projects lay a solid foundation of development and fostering of Belarusian-Russian partnership. ‘Creative young people with positive attitudes and love of learning are able to change the world and make it a better and sustainable place to live’.
Alexandr Kulik, Minister of Forestry, reminded the audience that Belarus is in the top ten most forested countries of Europe. ‘The forest cover we have today is fairly adequate and approaches 40% of the total area of the country. Over the last 60 years we have managed to double our forest resources’.
‘The sidelines of the Forum create a favourable enabling environment for strengthening of cultural and educational cooperation of Russian and Belarusian universities. The event also celebrates The Year of Peace and Creation declared by the President of the Republic of Belarus’, said Sergey Pishchov, Head of Main Directorate of Professional Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
‘We need novel ideas, innovative solutions and advanced technology that are able to forecast and prevent adverse changes and ensure sustainable development of our countries’, mentioned Alexandr Korbut, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus.
Igor Marzalyuk, Chairman to the Permanent Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus highlighted the importance of the event and said that ‘it is crucial to cherish best practices of forestry that have been established in both Russia and Belarus’.
The Forum delegates come from a variety of regions in Russia: Novosibirsk (Novosibirsk, State Agrarian University), Moscow (Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting, Russian State Agrarian University), Kazan (Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev), Ussuriysk (Primorskaya State Agricultural Academy), Voronezh (Voronezh State University of Forestry and Technologies named after G.F. Morozov), Irkutsk (Irkutsk State Agrarian University named after A.A. Ezhevsky), Krasnoyarsk (Siberian State University of Science and Technology named after M.F. Reshetnev), Saint-Petersburg (Saint-Petersburg State Forest Technical University).
Belarusian universities are represented by delegates from Mogilev State University named after A.A. Kuleshov, Belarusian-Russian University, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University and Belarusian State Technological University.
After the opening ceremony the Forum participants headed to Negoreloye Forestry Experimental Station. The agenda of the event includes lectures, field classes, workshops, round table discussions, guided excursions and many more.
