November 4, 2025 – The opening session of VII International Forum “Skoryna Readings: Theory and Practice of Personal Information Literacy in Belarus and Around the Globe” was held at Belarusian State Technological University.
The participants were welcomed by First Vice-Rector Andrei Sakovich who highlighted that issues to be discussed are crucially important in the context of the current digital transformation of the society.
«Personal information literacy is not just a skill that everyone would like to have, but a basic necessity. It is a set of knowledge, skills and values that can guide you through the information space, help you to critically assess the information that you get and efficiently use it for your personal and professional needs”, Andrei Sakovich noted.

In his welcoming speech Andrei Sakovich emphasized the following key challenges of today:
- Information overload and disinformation spread;
- Necessity for lifelong learning to keep pace of the current technological development;
- Digital gap and failure to think critically;
- Lack of comprehensive training in educational institutions.
The session focused on practical solutions such as development of curricula, equal access to technology and promotion of critical thinking skills at all levels of education.

The Forum brought together experts from Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and aimed to address the current issue of information literacy in this day and age.
